DWWA 2011: Results to be announced

The results of the 2011 Decanter World Wine Awards will be announced on Decanter.com and at the London International Wine Fair, on Decanter stand K10

All Regional Trophy, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Commended from this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards will be launched on Tuesday 17th May, at 10am GMT on Decanter.com and to the wine trade at London International Wine Fair on Decanter stand K-10. For the first time, all winners will be listed online on Decanter.com with UK and US price and stockist information. International Trophies will be announced in September, to coincide with the publication of the October Awards issue of Decanter magazine.

“I am very excited to be releasing this year’s awards results on Decanter.com and with Steven Spurrier on Tuesday at the London International Wine Fair. This year we have moved into a new era for the competition, and I hope that more consumers than ever will be able to experience and taste the DWWA winning wines around the world,” said Sarah Kemp, Publishing Director of Decanter.

“I am also very pleased to announce the launch of our new DWWA microsite on Decanter.com, which from Tuesday 17 May will be filled with coverage of the DWWA and the activities of our medal winners, as well as full credentials of all our judges, and profiles of every Regional Trophy.”

This year, the 211 DWWA judges were from all around the world, including a fifth of the world’s population of Masters of Wine. Top sommeliers, including 12 Master Sommeliers, wine critics and wine writers, many of whom are also the aforementioned Masters of Wine, all contributed to the 2011 DWWA results.

During judging week, Tony Aspler, DWWA Regional Chair for Canada, told Decanter.com: “This is not an easy competition. In order to get a gold, a silver, a bronze or even a commended award, you have to be a top-notch wine. The quality of the judges, and I’m talking about people from all over the world who are at that are at the top of their game are tasting these wines. If you get an award here, you’ve achieved something to really be proud of.”
