Profile:

The Glaetzers arrived in Australia in the late 19th century after emigrating fromGermany, and records suggest they wasted little time before growing grapes.

Colin Glaetzer founded the modern-day business in the mid-1990s, having worked previously at Barossa Valley Estate where he was responsible for the famed E&E Black Pepper Shiraz. His son Ben has gone on to become one of the Barossa’s stars.

Bishop is named in tribute to the family name of Colin’s wife Judith. As with the rest of the Glaetzer wines, the fruit is sourced from the Barossa district of Ebeneezer, the vines a combination of ‘young’ (35 years) and very old (120 years). ‘2012 was one of those vintages you really dream of as a winemaker, says Ben. ‘The flavour and intensity of the fruit was unbelievable!’
