DWWA 2014 Regional Trophy: Sweet Regional France under £15

This year's Decanter World Wine Awards Regional Trophy for Sweet Regional France under £15 went to Château de Jurque, Séduction, Jurançon 2011 (13%)

Tasted against:

  • No other Golds in this category

Profile:

Chateau de Jurque is run by two sisters, Claire Bessou-Latrille and sibling Camille. The estate was founded by their grandfather, Pierre-Yves Latrille, in 2000 (he was also responsible for founding Château Jolys in the late 1960s).

‘Taking over, as sisters, the estate our grandfather created is something we are very proud of,’ says Camille. ‘He successively conveyed his passion to his daughter, our aunt, and finally to us. Claire and I blend our skills, and have the ambition to perpetuate this family legacy and maintain the recognised quality of our wines.’

Camille looks after the commercial aspects of the business while Claire is technical director, and the latter has a clear objective in mind when it comes to the decisions that need to be made: ‘My technical choices are oriented to obtaining the pure expression of the aromas of our Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng grapes. I try to make aromatic wines that seduce both newcomers to Jurançon and expert palates alike.’

This Trophy-winner – aptly called Séduction – is 100% Petit Manseng and follows a Regional Trophy last year for Château de Jurque’s dry wine, Emotion, as well as an International Trophy for the Jurançon sec from Château Jolys – both châteaux fall under the same ownership, under the umbrella brand Domaines Latrille.
