2004 vintage guide for Italy Piedmont

keep

Well balanced wines with ripe fruit

Weather Conditions

Late in starting due to abundant rains in the first months of the year.
Winter temperatures remained low for longer than normal, delaying budding and flowering. Summer temperatures were in the norm with sunny days and cool nights throughout September and October, ripening the grapes slowly. These offered ideal conditions, particularly given the strong temperature variation between day and night throughout most of the growing season. Given the conditions, most producers started harvesting 10-20 days later than in 2003 and production levels were up in by 20%-35% compared to 2003.
