1995 vintage guide for Oregon Pinot Noir

Oregon 1995: Drink now

The first in a run of three wet harvests yielded agreeable yet light wines

Weather Conditions

The weather conditions were good (moderate temperature, normal rain) during the spring and early summer weeks. As the vines were carrying a good-sized crop after a decent set, the weather turned a touch nasty with unusual high humidity in September and more than normal precipitation falling as well. The rain was heaviest in the Willamette Valley. In mid-October growers worked hard to harvest the fruit during a series of rain showers. A solid week of rain stopped the harvest in mid-October, but picking resumed and was completed by month’s end. Vineyards in Southern Oregon experienced their usual warmer weather and far less precipitation. They began harvesting the last week of September and continued normal without weather problems.
