Mumm to launch new £100 fizz
November 9, 2006

Adam Lechmere

Champagne Mumm is to launch a new £100 cuvee.

The new line, a Pinot Noir-Chardonnay blend exclusively from Mumm's own grand cru vineyards, will launch in September next year with the 1998 vintage.

There will be no more than 2000 cases, and the wine will cost between £90 and £100 retail. It will be sold in top hotels and restaurants.

'The prestige cuvee is always the flagship of the range, and we are missing that. We need to secure the foundations,' Mumm's export director Jean-Etienne Gourgues told decanter.com.

Earlier this week Patrick Ricard, chairman of Pernod Ricard, Mumm and Perrier-Jouet's owners, announced they would be launching an ultra-premium cuvee under the Belle Epoque label at €1000 (£670).

Mumm also stressed that the new cuvee would be 'great with food – it will enhance the repuation of Mumm as a gastronomic Champagne house,' a spokeswoman said.
