Third International Wine Centre opens in Shanghai
July 27, 2007
Oliver Styles
China's first independent wine school opened in Shanghai this week under the aegis of wine writer, consultant and educator Simon Tam.
Over 70 members of the wine trade, including restaurateurs, distributors, and merchants attended the opening of the International Wine Centre in Asia.
The Shanghai centre is the third of its kind after Hong Kong and Macau.
Although primarily focussed on providing wine education, the centre will also serve as a hub providing Chinese market intelligence and transmitting consumer feedback to winemakers.
'I would like to thank the Shanghai hospitality industry for its magnificent support and I am looking forward to serving it with what is lacking in China – unbiased, objective information,' said Tam at the opening ceremony on Tuesday.
Tam opened the first International wine Centre in Hong Kong in 1999.
