Hennessy release €150k Cognac

December 17, 2007
By Sophie Kevany

Hennessy has released a new Cognac cuvee for the record price of €150,000.

Beauté du Siècle Hennessy Cognac is a limited edition blend which comes in a Baccarat crystal bottle, housed in a special chest.

It was blended by cellar master Yann Fillioux from Hennessy reserves which are up to 100 years old, the youngest being 47 years.

The bottle's chest was made by 10 different artists using mirrored glass and melted aluminium. It opens with a bronze key and a concealed switch triggers the gentle rise of a tray holding the bottle, set in a gilded lattice designed by Guerlain.

'[The Cognac] was created in homage to a very special man, Killian Hennessy,' said Thibault le Mailloux, Hennessy communications director.

Killian Hennessy, who is 100 years old this year, is the sixth generation descendant of the founder of Hennessy. He oversaw the merger between Hennessy and Moët & Chandon in 1971, and the creation of the LVMH group in 1987, of which he was the first honorary president.

One chest has already been presented to Killian Hennessy as a birthday present, and another was donated to Elizabeth Taylor's AIDS charity and auctioned for US$200,000 earlier this year. Several others have already been sold, to buyers in Asia, Europe and America, le Maillot said.

A few of the chests have also been on display at a number of contemporary art spaces such as the Galerie Nichidou in Tokyo.

750 ml? or 1.5 litre?

This has to be a joke! This is like ford charging 1.5 million dollars for the Taurus. There cognac is over priced and boring!
