Great Australian Wine Dinner re-launched

November 11, 2009
John Abbott

The Great Australian Wine Dinner will be re-launched this month, as diners gather to support the Judy Hirst Memorial Foundation.

The original dinner was set up in 1996 by Judy Hirst 'to recognise Australia's exceptional winemakers and bring them together at the table with leading wine communicators and passionate devotees.'

Judy Hirst, who died from breast cancer in 2007, worked alongside her husband Rob at wine distributor Tucker Seabrook & Co.

Leon Fink, owner of Quay restaurant, said that re-launching The Great Australian Wine Dinner would help to perpetuate Hirst's memory.

The dinner is due to be held at Quay restaurant in Sydney on 25 November, with all the money raised from the evening going towards The Judy Hirst Memorial Foundation.

Peter Bourne and Andrew Caillard MW will be two of the 'eleven leading wine communicators' hosting the event which will feature a silent auction.

Sarah Kemp, Decanter publishing director, said 'Judy Hirst was an extraordinary woman who brought warmth and vivacity to the Australian wine industry. She was one of the wine industry's inspiring women.'
