The well-known cru bourgeois Chateau Loudenne has been sold to négociant and château owner Jean-Paul Lafragette for a sum said to be in the region of £6 million ($9.6 m).
The estate has been in English hands since 1875. Originally owned by gin manufacturers Gilbeys, and more recently United Distillers (now Diageo), it consists of an outstanding 17th century chartreuse with 120 hectares of prime Medoc vineyard planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc plus a little Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
In addition to the grand vin, the property also makes a highly regarded white from 14ha of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.
