The Loire Atlantique public authority has come up with a €2.7 aid measure to combat economic problems in the Loire Valley.
In an effort to re-draw vineyard boundaries to stem overproduction which directly contributes to a fall in the price of the Muscadet grape, growers in the Nantes region have been given €2.7m to uproot 20% of the vineyards – 15,000ha.
The authority aims to compensate each grower with €6,300 per hectare. It has already sought aid to implement the plan from the European Union.
