American giant Gallo the world's second-biggest wine company has launched a range of Chilean wines in the UK.
Viña Chilcaya which means 'liquid gem' in the native Mapuche language has been put together with Viña Bisquertt Family Vineyards in Colchagua.
The brand consists of three price levels: 'Popular', 'Premium Reserva' and 'Super-premium Reserva Especial', ranging from £5.49 to £9.99. Varietals are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Viña Chilcaya adds to Sonoma-based Gallo's burgeoning portfolio of old and new world wines, which include brands from California, France and Australia as well as Chile.
One of the company's most talked-about launches was Red Bicyclette from the Languedoc in 2004. That was followed by Pont d'Avignon, a Cotes du Rhone, early in 2005.
Gallo's European marketing director Glenn Caton said, 'We believe in the power of brands to continue to drive category value and volume growth through their approachability, consistency and value.'
