Economists launch new wine journal

May 18, 2006
Panos Kakaviatos

Economics professors from top American universities such as Harvard and Princeton have launched the world's first-ever Journal of Wine Economics.

The journal, which is published by the newly-created American Association of Wine Economists, seeks to provide 'high-quality research on economic topics related to wine', it says on the group's website.

The new Washington State-based association is non-profit and boasts a five-member board.

So far, articles produced by the group include 'Assessing the effect of information on the reservation price for Champagne' and 'What determines wine prices: Objective vs Sensory characteristics'.

Membership to the association costs US$39 – the bi-annual journal is included in the price – and members can gain access to its conferences and forums.
