Frescobaldi joins Stolly and Mondavi

May 22, 2006
By Michele Shah

Frescobaldi has teamed up with Stolichnaya Vodka and Michael Mondavi to create a new joint venture Tenute di Toscana

The group pulls together three great Frescobaldi estates, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, Castel Giocondo and Luce della Vite, which creates a combined total of 350ha of vines in the most prestigious production areas of Tuscany, Bolgheri and Montalcino.

Tenute di Toscana is a joint venture between Frescobaldi (which keeps 72% of the shares), SPI Group Geneva, and MIP, a Napa group owned by Michael Mondavi, formerly chairman of the Robert Mondavi Company and son of Napa veteran Robert Mondavi.

SPI's brands include Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya vodka. Michael Mondavi is the long- time American partner of Frescobaldi and co-founder of Luce della Vite, and now runs an import company, Folio Wine Partners, which will import the group's brands exclusively in the US.
