Posh and Becks shore up Cristal
November 2, 2006

It might have lost the endorsement of Jay-Z, but Roederer has found new high-profile support in the form of Victoria and David Beckham.
The former England football captain and his wife - known as Posh and Becks - insisted they be provided with the Champagne during their stay at the Hempel, an ultra-exclusive hotel in Bayswater, west London.
According to reports, the Beckhams were 'dismayed' to find Dom Ruinart in the ice buckets, and former 'Posh Spice' Victoria demanded it be changed.
'She was quite clear that she and David were not happy with anything else but Cristal,' hotel staff said.
With US rapper Jay-Z boycotting the brand after accusing Roederer MD Frédéric Rouzaud of racism, the celebrity couple look set to become the prestige cuvée's new non-official sponsors.
Newspaper reports claim the Hempel spent £20,000 on preparing for the couple's stay, including extra security staff, £5,000 of linen sheets flown in from Italy and £1,000 of bath scents.

Firstly I should mention that, like many, I feel that Roederer is an absolutely first-class producer with top-notch products.
But oh, thank heavens; I can again sleep nights, no longer worried for Roederer and those mountains of Cristal stock that I'm sure had backed-up since Jay-Z's boycott was announced. Steven Drotos, Canada
This is the sort of wine snobby stuff that I dislike very much. I say, who cares... Paul Chasey, Palm Desert, California
In reply to Paul Chasey, I care, taking interest in whats happening with a product you enjoy is not wine snobby. More to the point if you like it don't read the article… simple! Jamie Holmes, Australia
Who cares indeed! This should appear in Hello magazine, not Decanter. 20,000 quid 'on preparation' - it's pathetic, a lot of people earn less than that a year. I would have thought it was a very good reason to drink DP or Krug! Adrian Latimer, Paris, France
