Decanter food and drink writer nominated for Cordon Bleu award

The Italy-based food and drink writer’s Collio: Fine Wines and Foods from Italy’s Northeast is in the Best Food and Drink Guidebook category.
The book, Capalbo says, covers ‘a small but fascinating and beautiful part of Friuli Venezia Giulia… a land of small farms and vignerons [which] deserves to be better known for its fabulously vibrant whites’.
Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards are selected by a panel of 50 judges and will be presented on 3 May in Adelaide.
In total there are 181 nominations in 21 categories covering every aspect of food and drink publishing from photography to children’s cookbooks.
Nominees come from dozens of countries around the world, with the UK, USA, Australia and Canada leading the field.
Collio, which is illustrated with the author’s photographs, has already won the 2009 Andre Simon Award for a drinks book – one of only three categories in the highly-prestigious annual awards.
Capalbo, who researches her books by ‘living with the winemakers and food producers in different parts of the countryside and researching the culture of their agriculture’ told decanter.com, ‘To gain such important recognition is a real honour and makes the nomadic lifestyle worthwhile.’
Other nominations for the Cordon Bleu Awards include the Landscape of New Zealand Wine, photography by former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd, and Andrew Jefford’s Wine Course by the renowned Decanter columnist.

Cookery books include Flavour: A World of Beautiful Food by Vicky Bhogal, and Christmas by Margaret Fulton, a member of the Tasting Australia Hall of Fame.
UK wine writer Tim Atkin MW is nominated as best wine writer, while Waitrose Food Illustrated (now relaunched as Waitrose Kitchen), Australian Gourmet Traveller and Spain Gourmetour are in the Best Food Magazine category.
