Foster's challenged on plastic bottles

  • Tuesday 19 May 2009

Queensland’s Sirromet Wines has challenged reports that Wolf Blass launched the first wines in Australia in 750ml plastic bottles.

It has also challenged Foster’s claim that it is the first company to launch wines in 750ml PET bottles that have environmental benefits proven by scientific assessment.

Sirromet says it believed its First Step 2005 Cabernet Merlot and 2008 unwooded Chardonnay, launched in January this year, were the first to be sold in 750ml PET bottles and the first to be backed by a full lifecycle assessment of their carbon footprint.

The wines had been included in an assessment of all Sirromet’s products by Adelaide-based wine science consultancy Provisor.

Foster’s Group’s Wolf Blass Green Label wines, assessed by Melbourne consultancy Net Balance Management Group, were released on May 11.
