Vancouver to host Penfolds re-corking clinic

Penfolds buffs will converge on Vancouver next week to get a health check on their precious bottles in the latest in a series of re-corking clinics hosted by the Australian producer.

Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago will host the event, to be held at Vancouver’s Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, October 19.

More than 150 bottles of Penfolds have already been booked in for the session, which provides a health-check on red Penfolds wines at least 15 years old. The free service provides, if necessary, opening, tasting, topping off and re-corking and re-sealing on site.

As well as Gago, a representative from Christie’s will be on hand to offer a market appraisal on the wines, while Penfolds will offer official certification.

Many Vancouver wine collectors have already booked appointments at the session to have their prized wines assessed and valued.

Among the highlights already registered for the clinic will be two bottles of Penfolds 1962 Bin 60A, valued at more than AU$2,000 each and considered by many to be the greatest Australian wine ever made.
