Champagne looks for annual ambassador
- Tuesday 6 June 2006
The CIVC (Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne) will be running the Champagne Ambassadors’ Awards – in which candidates compete to be named the official Champagne Ambassador – across seven European countries over the next few months.
Written applications are being accepted until 10 July and the UK finals will take place on 20 September.
The UK winner will be chosen by a panel of five judges including Michael Schuster, David Wrigley MW (of the Wine and Spirits Education trust) and representatives from the CIVC and the CIB (Champagne Information Bureau).
Individual representatives from each of the seven countries are then pitted against each other. Candidates have to present to the panel, with the winner being judged on ‘knowledge, presentational skills, blind tasting and overall enthusiasm for the Champagne category.’
The winner is awarded the title of Champagne Ambassador on 20 October.
Two runners-up will be awarded the Jury’s special prize and a CIVC prize.
