2001 d’Yquem released

The 2001 Château d’Yquem vintage was released to Bordeaux négociants this afternoon.

The vintage has been keenly awaited, with critics worldwide singing the wine’s praises.

‘The vintage was truly exceptional,’ said Matthieu Chadronnier of Bordeaux négociant Dourthe-Kressmann. ‘We’ve seen a reduction in prices of previous d’Yquem vintages so this should buck the trend.’

The last vintage released, discounting the 2004 d’Yquem at this year’s en primeur, was the 1999 – one of the cheapest d’Yquem releases and currently selling for around £100 per bottle.

The 2001 vintage promises to be much more expensive. One online wine merchant in France is offering the wine for €330 (£225) per bottle.

The wine has been lauded by many wine critics. It gained a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker, who described it as ‘legendary’ in April this year.
