An era has ended at grand cru classé Château Prieuré-Lichine with the announcement of its sale to the Ballande Group, a mining, agricultural and transport firm based in New Caledonia.

The fourth growth Cantenac estate was formerly the home of merchant, author and wine guru the late Alexis Lichine, who acquired it in 1952. Following his death in 1989 it has been under the control of his son Sacha.

The domaine consists of 70ha, producing a range of wines in addition to the grand vin including a white and a rosé. The château itself is a 16th century priory which was lovingly restored by Alexis Lichine and is open to the public.
