Heston Blumenthal beats Gordon Ramsay for UK title

Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck has taken the title of the UK’s best restaurant for the third year running.

The 2011 Good Food Guide awarded Blumenthal’s Berkshire restaurant a perfect 10 out of 10 score, denying Gordon Ramsay’s Royal Hospital Road the number one spot.

The Ramsay-owned venue was the only London restaurant in the top five, suggesting the capital may be losing its culinary dominance.

Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire took third spot, with up-and-coming chefs at L’Enclume in Cumbria and Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall taking fourth and fifth place respectively.

Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor, The Good Food Guide, said: ‘Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay continue to delight us with their stuff of genius, world class style and truly memorable dining experiences.

‘But we’ve seen significant changes in the UK restaurant scene over the last year. A crop of talent has sprung up all over the country, pushing London restaurants out of the top spots with their culinary delights,’ she added.

Wine list of the year went to The Queensbury Hotel’s Olive Tree restaurant in Bath.
