Jackson Family Wines pledge $3 million to University of California at Davis
- Monday 31 January 2011
The building will showcase technology that demonstrates how a winery can capture, filters, and reuse rainwater.
It will also house equipment that holds carbon dioxide captured from the winery’s fermentation system, resulting in a net zero carbon footprint.
Jackson Family Wines co-proprietors Jess Jackson and Barbara R. Banke announced the donation on Friday at the opening of the University of California at Davis’ new environmentally-progressive winery, brewery, and food-processing complex.
'We are helping to advance the science of sustainable viticulture specifically, and agriculture generally, while contributing to the education of our next generation of winemakers,' said Ms. Banke through a spokesperson.
'Wine made at the facility is and will be strictly for education and research purposes,' she added.
The building is expected to be completed in 2013.

What a bunch of ingrates; he didn't have to give anything but he did. There is always someone who will criticize and demean any gift given and $3 million is not a drop in the bucket.

Here is a guy who has literally made billions in the California wine business, much of it by buying assets for near nothing. And he's lauded for giving a paltry $3 million to UCD. It's less than he pays for a racehorse.
