Antinori, Allegrini and other stars at Decanter's Great Summer Fine Wine Encounters
- Wednesday 25 April 2012
Decanter’s two Summer Fine Wine Encounters are the perfect way to start the summer with unmissable masterclasses and hundreds of great wines.
On Saturday 19 May at the Great Italian Fine Wine Encounter, Marchese Antinori presents a masterclass of verticals of Solaia and Tignanello going back to 1982, and Marilisa Allegrini’s masterclass covers vintages of her celebrated Amarone going back to 1990.
In a third masterclass, Decanter expert Ian D’Agata will be taking his audience through ten of Italy’s most famous Barolo vineyards, including Oddero Barolo Brunate 2005, Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra 2005, and Ceretto Barolo Bricco Rocche 2005.
At the same time, in the Discovery Theatre, three informal tutored tastings will be presented by Vini Italiani – pairing luxury chocolate with Italian wine, Italy’s great whites and undiscovered Italian red wines.
Meanwhile, throughout the day, over 60 producers from every wine-producing region of Italy will be showing their wines in the Grand Tasting – including such celebrated names as Frescobaldi, Antinori, Isole e Olena, Masi, Planeta, Tenute, Silvio Nardi and many others.
The following month, on Saturday 16 June, sees the Great Bordeaux Fine Wine Encounter.
With masterclasses from Chateau Lynch Bages – presented by Jean-Charles Cazes – Gruaud Larose, and the wines of Pessac-Leognan, as well as dozens of producers from the world’s greatest wine region, this is an unmissable event.
The Bordeaux Fine Wine Encounter also features, for the first time, a special En Primeur focus.
Steven Spurrier, Stephen Brook and Jim Budd will be presenting An Insider’s Guide to En Primeur with an informal talk and tastings of Bordeaux 2011 wines.
