Barbadillo: most expensive
losvinosdejerez.com, a privately-funded initiative but with the blessing of the Consejo Regulador de Jerez, was launched at the Consejo's offices with the news that it is ‘the first one of its kind to focus entirely on Sherry’.
This is not quite accurate in that the site also lists wines from Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Castilla, Cava and Champagne as well as rum, brandy whisky, gin and other drinks products.
But it does, however, have possibly the most impressive range of Sherries ever gathered together.
There are 223 wines listed from 16 bodegas including 27 Finos, 30 Manzanillas, 31 Amontillados, 48 Olorosos, 13 Palos Cortados and 34 Pedro Ximenez, ranging from familiar everyday names to some extremely exotic and ancient wines.
The most expensive are Barbadillo’s Reliquia range at €183.14 and the cheapest is Fino Mira la Mar from the AECOVI co-op at €3.15.
Aside from the Reliquia there are old wines, seldom if ever seen outside the region, such as the Old and Plus range from Sanchez Romate, Victoria Regina Oloroso from Díez Merito, and Maestro Sierra’s Palo Cortado.
More familiar names include whole ranges from González Byass, Garvey’s and Luís Caballero/Lustau.
