Detectives are hunting the suspects who are thought to have made off with the haul in an HGV lorry after stealing a trailer from a haulage yard in Uddingston, near Glasgow.

According to police reports, the thieves broke into RT Keedwell haulage yard at some stage between midday on Saturday and 8.20am on Sunday, before attaching a trailer to their own cab and driving away.

The trailer contained wine stacked in pallets totalling around 50,000 bottles. It is not yet known what the bottles were, or what their original destination was.

Detective Sergeant John Cameron, from Hamilton Police Station, called the robbery a 'high-value theft'.

He asked any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident, to contact local police officers.

DS Cameron said: 'I would urge anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious on Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning either at, or near, the haulage yard to come forward, as they may have information that is vital to this inquiry.'
