Philippe Sereys de Rothschild succeeds Baroness as Mouton chairman

Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, eldest son of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her first husband Jacques Sereys has been officially named as successor to his mother as chairman of the supervisory board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA.

The appointment, which was widely expected following the death of Baroness Philippine on 22 August, was announced by the company on 18 October.

Philippe de Rothschild had been vice-chairman since 2006 and has been increasingly involved in running Chateaux Mouton Rothschild, Clerc Milon and d’Armailhac in Pauillac in recent years, as well as the family’s other wine concerns, including its involvement with Opus One in California, Almaviva in Chile and the Mouton Cadet brand.

Philippe de Rothschild, 51, is a graduate of Harvard Business School and worked as a mergers analyst at Lazard Bank in New York and as finance director of a large energy company before returning to the family wine estates.

A spokesperson at Chateau Mouton Rothschild confirmed that Baroness Philippine’s other two children, Camille Ögren and Julien de Beaumarchais, will also be continuing on the advisory board, although it was ‘too soon’ to say what their exact roles will be.

Philippe de Rothschild said that he would work closely with his immediate family, the executive committee and the existing staff and ‘continue to develop the famous Bordeaux wine company, remaining true to the achievements of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, a leading figure in the wine world’.
