History:
Both the name and emblem (a fighting galleon) of the Château are derived from its 18th century owner Count Anne-Joseph-Hippolyte Maurès de Malartic, who as an Admiral of the French fleet fought the British on the high seas. It was the next owner, Madame Ricard, who renamed the then 'Domaine de Lagravière' in his honour, and also set about remodelling the estate - pretty much established the appearance it has today. In 1990, Malartic-Lagravière was purchased by Laurent-Perrier, but was returned to family ownership six years later with its sale to Belgian couple Michèle and Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie.
