History:

Like its sister Pauillac property Château Lafite Rothschild, Duhart-Milon began life as part of the great Ségur estate that dominated the appellation during the 17th century. The vines on the estate's Milon hills were already much admired and served to produce a second wine for Lafite's then-owner Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur ('the wine prince'). By the 19th century the estate was owned by a Monsieur Mandavy, and in the 1830s was inherited by the Castéja family, who remained at the helm until 1937 - by which time war and economic recession had got the better of them. For two decades disaster stalked Duhart: it changed hands five times and by the devastating frost of 1956 just 17 of the original 50 hectares remained under vine. Then, from 1962, renovation and

revival - and ownership under Château Lafite’s owners, Domaines Barons de Rothschilds (founded by cousins of the Mouton Rothschilds).
