De Martino, Viejas Tinajas Muscat, Itata Valley, Chile, 2013

The ungrafted bush vines behind this wine are 30 years old. It’s expressive on the nose but not excessively grapey – more floral with apricot tinges. Extended skin contact adds structure to the palate as well as a hint of tannins on the finish.

Dry to the bone, this Muscat from very old vines on the slopes of Itata was fermented and aged in 100-year-old clay amphorae for nine months before bottling. It is fragrant, floral and rich in flavours and aromas of candied citrus. The body is stunning and voluptuous with a wild texture. Great now with charcuterie or to cellar for a decade.
