The 2011 Mas La Plana is still in its infancy, with sweet black cherry fruit, cocoa powder and tobacco taking centre stage. The support act comes from gorgeously round, binding tannins, a dry savoury edge, and a long gourmand finish. This weighs in at 14.5%, so there is power but the overwhelming sense is one of elegance and richness combined, not least because the oak has been beautifully integrated and the fruit is so pure. Needs a lot more time to reveal its true majesty.
