Château Palmer, Margaux 2010
In marked contrast to the fleshy and exotic ’09, this ’10 is much more foursquare and fresh. Six years on, the colour remains fixed, dark and impenetrably opaque. Though initially closed on the nose, time in the glass opened up its mineral floral notes. On the palate, it remains lithe and muscular with a broad tannic frame supporting flavours of blackcurrant, cream, iron, cedar and lead pencil. And thanks to its bright, flowing acidity, this has an extraordinarily long finish. Without doubt, it will age and develop for decades.
