Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, Martinborough, New Zealand 2001
The last vintage before screwcaps were introduced. This has a distinct autumnal/savoury aspect to it with an appealing hint of volatility, reminiscent of Nebbiolo – ‘my second favourite variety after Pinot’ says winery owner Clive Paton. Bright, mineral cherry fruit beautifully balanced by refreshing acidity. Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2001 is tight and expressive.
