Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010

Splendid nose, packed with black cherry and blueberry fruit, and marked by new oak and just the right amount of meatiness. Broad, plump, with vivid upfront fruit, but has concentration and structure too. Very well balanced, with some spice to enliven the finish. Not extracted, but delicious and long.

Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010

Deep episcopal colour and fine subtle yet complex nose, with lavender, hints of violet and bay and no shortage of ripe fruit. Palate is broad, generous, with very fine tannins, present as they should be in one so young but in no way intrusive. The counterpoint between sweet fruit and peppery back-palate is impressive; the ensemble is harmonious; a very accomplished chamber piece.

Tasting: Saint Joseph 2010

Handsome dark red; spiced, oily bouquet, suggests ripe power within, mulled berries, oaking. This is a modern treatment St. Joseph, oak notions in its black berry fruit. Has the northern zone snap on the finish, a crackle of unfinished business there. Needs to fuse its late acidity and its oak, which renders the floral aftertaste a little dry now. The core fruit has juice in it, so can get there.
