Black Dog Hill, Classic Cuvée, Sussex, England, 2011

90
Tasted by: Christelle Guibert
Drinking Window: 2016 - 2018
Made from the classic Champagne grape varieties for which Chardonnay is the main component in the blend. Located at the border of the South Downs National Park on a typical chalky terroir, this is a family affair involving 3 generations. 2011 is the first release and what a better way to start with an exceptional ripe vintage! A harmonious wine with bright citrus and peachy aromas. The 6 months ageing in Burgundy barrels adds complexity and richness and it is beautifully balanced with the citrus and ripe apple characters. Not surprising to see that this cuvée has been crafted by the Master of English wine, Dermot Sugrue.
