Josef Chromy, Pepik Sekt NV
Josef Chromy arrived in Tasmania as a refugee of Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia in the 1950s. Having made his fortune in the meat industry, he invested in a winery in the early 1990s and since then has been a driving force in the region. This sparkling wine is based on the German Sekt style. Tightly wound lime and elderflower flavours dominate the palate. The mousse is nice and smooth thanks to a second fermentation carried out in the bottle. The high acidity from the Riesling makes this very refreshing, with a sumptuously dry, long finish.
