Marchesato degli Aleramici, Brunello di Montalcino 2010
Decanter average score 95
Marchesato degli Aleramici is located in Camigliano, the winery falls within the confines of the Bogatto natural park and also offers bed-and-breakfast accommodation. The estate’s wine has always been correctly made, with the typical marine influence that characterises the rather saline, herbal wines of all Montalcino estates situated this far west. The 2010 Brunello is remarkably elegant and precise, with plenty of life ahead, though it is remarkably easy to drink already.
Andrea Bricarello 95+ Slightly ethereal, with meaty undertones on the nose; very traditional with hints of sour cherries. Palate of medium intensity and generous fruits, dark morello and dry plums followed by firm tannins.
Ian D’Agata 95 Vivid red: the colour can’t get any more Sangiovese than this! Deep, complex and very pure aromas and flavours of red cherry, flint, marzipan, violet, and cinnamon. Very perfumed and refined, and proof that perfect wine doesn’t need to be a behemoth to be great.
Michael Garner 95 Broad and scented: notes of candied fruit, spice and dried flowers. Balanced palate with ripe, polished fruit flavours of great breadth; highly nuanced. Very forward but well structured. Pretty classic.
