The rain did little to dampen the spirits of guests at the 13th ‘Tour de France des Appellations’ held at Domaine de Chevalier on Monday evening.
Guests were welcomed in from the torrential rain to plentiful canapés, including oysters, calamari, smoked ham and salmon and caviar while Champagne and a wide array of red and white wine from regions across France were freely poured for the duration of the drinks reception.
A free-seating policy was employed for the evening’s meal which was served inside two marquees and parts of the chai.
Around 400 winemakers, journalists and special guests mixed together to enjoy a hot course of chicken stuffed with foie gras served with a selection of vegetables, followed by an impressively large cheese buffet and dessert selection of petit fours placed on tables plus ice cream, sorbet and fresh fruit served from stands in each room.
A selection of red, white and sparkling wines were laid out on tables in-between the dining marquees for people to fill at will throughout the evening.
These were provided by the evening’s host winemakers, including Pol Roger 2002 and Blanc de Blancs 2002, Domaine Leflaive 2007, Domaine Chevalier 1983, Beaucastel white 2010 and red 1998 and Chateau Giraud from large format bottles.
Armagnac and cigars were handed out with live music playing into the night.
