biennial Fete des Feux, literally translated as party of fires, was
held in the stunning grounds of Château Phélan-Ségur in St Estephe, on
the evening of Wednesday 19th June.
Guests were welcomed to the
party, traditionally held to celebrate the beginning of summer, by the
chateau’s owner Thierry Gardinier and managing director Veronique
Dausse, as well as special guests Roland-Billecart from Champagne
Billecart-Salmon and Pierre-Henry Gagey president of Maison Louis Jadot
Champagne Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve was
freely poured from magnums alongside plentiful trays of freshly made
gougères, that were served to guests in the grounds of the chateau,
throughout the duration of the drinks reception.
The 600-strong guestlist then made their way to a marquee at the bottom of the garden where dinner was served.
three-course meal included langoustines with lemon slices and a mustard
mayonnaise, steak cooked to individual preferences served with a jacket
potato and herb sauce and red berry ‘soup’ for dessert.
Wines were chosen for each course, starting with Maison Louis Jadot Corton Charlemagne 2009 with the starter, Château Phélan-Ségur 2006 with the main plus a selection of Sauternes and Barsac for dessert including; Chateau Climens 2005, Chateau Coutet 1998, Chateau Doisy Daene 2003, Chateau Guiraud 2006, Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey 2006, Chateau de Malle 2006, Chateau Suiduiraut 1999 and Chateau La Tour Blanche 2006.
revelled into the early hours with entertainment from a live band
inside the marquee or with coffee and champagne outside by a bonfire
that had been lit earlier on in the evening.
