Torrential rain did not stop 1500 guests celebrating Fête de la Fleur at Chateau Lagrange in great style.
Despite lashing rain, spirits were high at Chateau Lagrange where 1500 people gathered for the most sought after invitation of the week. Suntory, owners of Chateau Lagrange celebrated 30 years of ownership by hosting the Fête de la Fleur with a distinctive Japanese tone, including a menu with haikus.
Among those intronised into the Commanderie du Bontemps were two former Bond girls, Carole Bouquet and Michelle Yeoh, well known wine personalities Bill Harlan of Harlan Estate and Alison Buchanan of Corney and Barrow, plus the Ambassadors from Belgium and Japan.
Guests were treated to lobster served with daikon ravioli matched with Chateau de Fieuzal 2010, boeuf d'Aquitaine with summer truffles accompanied Chateau Lafon Rochet 2003 and Chateau Lagrange 1995. Magnums of Chateau Lafite 1990 were generously poured to the thrilled guests along with an unusual dish of tomme de brebis in a millefeuille leaving Chateau Suduiraut 2001 to counterpoint the dramatic mango brûlée.
One guests was overheard on the way out saying "who cares or even remembers the weather when you have a dinner like that". Quite so.
