The Court of Master Sommeliers was established to encourage improved standards of beverage knowledge and service in hotels and restaurants. Education was then, and remains today, the Court's charter. The first successful Master Sommelier examination was held in the United Kingdom in 1969. By April 1977, the Court of Master Sommeliers was established as the premier international examining body. It took the Court ten years to perfect its qualifications, which are recognized internationally. Over the two decades since the Court's first examination was held, 104 candidates have earned the Master Sommelier Diploma. In the service of wine, spirits and other alcoholic beverages, the Master Sommelier Diploma is the ultimate professional credential anyone can attain worldwide.

Tim Atkin is one of Britain's leading wine writers and winner of numerous awards, including the Glenfiddich Wine Writer Award on five separate occasions. Bramhope Wine Appreciation Group has been running for nearly 20 years. The aim of the group has always been to further members' knowledge of wine. Every fortnight we have a different wine with a theme i.e. grape, country of origin, comparative tastings between the old and the new world, blind tastings, wines at a price both expensive and not so expensive. Wine with food occasionally and even wine guessing games. The evenings are fun and informative, light hearted but with a serious note learning all about wine and how to appreciate and enjoy wine at its best.
New members are always welcome - so don't worry that you won't know enough about wine.

Malmö Wine Academy has been offering wine courses to the public and wine trade since 1995. We offer basic and advanced level courses. The certificate of red and white wine consists of 20 weeks or 20 x 3 hours of lectures and wine-tasting. The Wine School is an educational institution with headquarters in Santiago, Chile. It is the Approved Programme Provider in Chile for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) for Levels 1, 2 and 3.
The Wine School is also the organizer of the different activities, on their own and with their partners, home winemaking courses, tasting courses, corporate tailored-made wine courses, wine regions travels, seminars, Masterclasses and new trends in the wine industry.
The Academic Director is Meg Brodtmann MW, an Australian winemaker who has many years experience making wines in Chile, Argentina, Australia, France, Spain, Italy and eastern European countries.
The Managing Director is Eugenio Echeverria, who has an MBA with marketing and sales experience, and has studied at UCLA, Universidad Adolfo Ibanez, Universidad Diego Portales and recently attained the Level 3 WSET certificate. Eugenio is an enthusiastic home winemaker.

We have just established an introductory course for novices and casual wine consumers, called "Basically WINE". The session is introduced by a wine professional with over 15 years experience and international wine judging experience. The presentation is multimedia, via Powerpoint, slide shows and videos and printed handouts.
Future education programmes will include specialised single-session tastings with moderators/panellists from overseas.
