Burgundy 2008: Top 3 from Jeroboams
Patrick Javillier is well known for his excellent white Bourgogne 'Cuvee Oligocene', and this wine was featured at the Jeroboam tasting.
Although closed on the nose, it's racy and crisp, while not lacking weight and tenacity, and the finish is stony and long. Good value. 16.5-17. £140 IB.
Puligny-Montrachet Combettes is often one of the top wines from Domaine Jacques Prieur, but it's at the oakier end of the spectrum: Dense and powerful oaky nose; full-bodied, with sweetness of fruit balanced by minerality, long sherbetty finish. Built to last. 17. £510 IB.
And an invigorating red from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret:
Vougeot Les Cras: Lush, generous cherry nose; bright, crisp, and fresh, concentrated but airy and vigorous, with charm, balance, and persistence. 17-17.5 £465 IB.
