Stephen Brook gives his top three wines from the Howard Ripley Burgundy 2008 tasting

An enthralling ragbag of wines at Howard Ripley.

Some bargains, such as Jouard's assertive, mineral Chassagne-Montrachet (£180 IB), but many red Village wines were quite hard. However, Comte Armand's Pommard Clos des Epeneaux, often tough as boots, showed brilliantly: a bit porty on the nose, but virile, powerful, and spicy on the palate (£480 IB).

Arnoux's Latricieres-Chambertin truly sumptuous, but the price is bruising (£1600 IB).
