White wines showed strongly at the Lea & Sandeman tasting.
From Henri Germain a fine Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot:
Sweet oaky coconut nose, very bright and fresh; plump and full-bodied, concentrated and assertive, with firm acidity and grip, and excellent length. 17.5. £399 IB.
Equally fine is the Puligny-Montrachet Pucelles from Henri Boillot:
Muted yet opulent apricot nose; broad, juicy, and concentrated, with fine acidity and minerality, persistent with a long dry finish. 17.5. £519 IB.
The reds showed less well, as many were still recovering from recently completed malolactic fermentations.
Very impressive, though pricy, is the Charmes Chambertin from Confuron Cotetidot:
Generous cherry and raspberry nose; rich and powerful, concentrated and tannic, has plenty of drive and complexity. Good length. 17.5. £723 IB.
Look out too for the austere and mineral Meursaults from Remi Jobard.
