Roberto della Pietra
Roberto della Pietra worked in a number of restaurants in Italy after college before becoming Commis de Rang at the Grand Hotel Moroni in Finale Ligure (Italy) in 1993. After a year he moved to Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey, where he spent seven years, firstly as Commis de Rang and his final position was Sommelier. In March 1999 he joined the team at John-Burton Race’s two-Michelin-starred L’Ortolan in Shinfield as head sommelier. In that time he came third in the final of UK Sommelier of the Year in April 2000. In April this year, della Pietra joined Alexis Gauthier and Gerard Virolle at the new Gauthier Soho Restaurant in London. He is a regular and judge for wine magazines and competitions, and is currently writing his first book on wine.
