Luciano de Murrieta founded the winery in 1877, making wines from vineyards on the property following methods learned in Bordeaux. In 1983 the property was purchased by Vicente Cebrián, Count of Creixell. His children Dalmau and Cristina have managed the estate since 1996.

The property has been painstakingly restored in a project lasting seven years, with the help of a team of stonemasons from Galicia who have followed the original blueprints.

Bodega Urbana (the Urban Winery), as its name indicates, is located on the Gran Vía in Bilbao, the city’s most important thoroughfare. It is a winery, wine shop and tapas bar rolled into one, allowing visitors to blend their own wine from a gleaming row of stainless steel tanks containing single varietal wines.

Bodega Urbana is an important meeting point for wine and other cultural activities, organizing wine and food pairings, gourmet food presentations and literary events.

Bodegas Campo Viejo was honored with a Best Of Wine Tourism award for its ‘Streets of Colour’ project carried out in collaboration with the street artists Okuda from Cantabria in Spain and the French artist Remed. The artists take their work to the streets of the world to interest young consumers in wine culture by means of graffiti and wine tastings. Their work can be seen on the website www.liveuncorked.com . These artists have created a sculpture that can currently be found in the Campo Viejo winery near Logroño.

In addition to these three prizes, the jury gave Bodegas CVNE and Bodegas Viña Real an Honorable Mention for their history and contributions to wine culture.
