Australia Day

top Australia whites, australia white,

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia and is celebrated every year on 26 January to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the first European settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788.

The celebrations are marked by community and family events, festivals, concerts and ceremonies as well as the presentation of the Australian of the Year Awards, the Australia Day Honours list and addresses from the Governor General and Prime Minister.

It is an official public holiday across the country, unless it falls on a weekend as it does in 2014 in which case the following Monday will be a public holiday.
