Region 'Germany' - Year 1993
|drink soon||A particularly fine vintage in the Mosel but Rheinhessen, the Pfalz, Baden, Franken and Nahe al|
Thanks to an extremely warm late spring, the flowering started in early June, three weeks earlier than usual and the prospects were good for a great vintage. However some areas suffered from drought, while in others, cool and rainy weather in July and August allowed the grapes to develop steadily. Heavy rain through September and early October caused problems, slowing down the ripening process and causing the spread of botrytis. So the vintage started hesitantly early in October and lasted nearly four weeks. By the strictest selection of grapes on the vine, excellent Riesling Kabinetts and some sensational Ausleses were possible and the best estates achieved this and even more!
Mosel and Rheingau produced some of the best wines.
In the Mosel, Fritz Haag, Dr. Loosen and Reinhold Haart and in Rheingau, Georg Breuer and Robert Weil all made splendid wines. Another excellent year for Eiswein.
