Region 'Red Rhone' - Year 1983
|drink now||The best reds from Hermitage and Cote Rotie combined wonderfully rich fruit with a powerful tannic structure, and are proving very long-lived|
June was quite wet in the northern Rhône, but the months that followed were warm and dry, culminating in a harvest during ideal climatic conditions. Dry weather in the south.
North: the best reds from Hermitage and Côte Rotie combined wonderfully rich fruit with a powerful tannic structure, and are proving very long-lived. This is the best vintage since 1978. White Hermitage was fresher than in 1982. South: the wines proved erratic. Some were rich and bold, others pallid and simple. (Condrieu did not last the course.)
Wines such as Jaboulet's Crozes Thalabert are still very much alive.
