Christie’s offers unrivalled Latour collection

Classic vintages of Chateau Latour from 1863 to 1996 are to be sold by Christie's in London, Los Angeles and New York later this year.

In what the auction house is calling ‘the finest single consignment of estate-sourced Château Latour ever to appear at auction’, the London sale (on 22 May) features 190 lots of Grand Vin de Château Latour including the 1863, 1865, 1899, 1900, 1929, 1945, 1959, 1961 and 1966. Highlights from the younger vintage collection include the 1982, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1996.

The Los Angeles sale takes place on 31 October and 1 November and the New York sale on the 20 and 21 November.

Frédéric Engerer, Président of Château Latour said, ‘Château Latour has always wanted to keep a certain quantity of each vintage in its cellars and we often feel like librarians with a collection of books that can be read only once. Realising that we very seldom open vintages from the 1950s and earlier, we have been considering a major international opening of our cellar ‘library’ to Latour lovers around the world for some considerable time.’
